Here is all the information on the songs on Unavoidable Hazards– their provenance album-wise and the musicians involved.
Lion In The Grass
The first song on “Doug Hazard: Dangerous Folksinger,” originally recorded and bounced between two 4-track tape recorders and released on Maxell cassettes, circa 1983 (3 Lb. Hammer 0001), then rerecorded digitally in ProTools for the CD remake of that album in 2017 (3 Lb. Hammer 0008). Featuring Dick Hodges on acoustic bass, this is the latter day remake, mixed and mastered by Rick Watson.
The Beauty of This World
Appears on “three falls” by Doug Hazard & The Cold River String Band (3Lb. Hammer 0002), released in 1994. This album was made in a “real” studio, The Daley Planet, Haverhill, MA on something no longer much available: 2 inch tape. And so recorded and mixed analog, before transfer to digital for CD. (Also available on cassette tape.)
The other members of The Cold River String Band: Bob Peelstrom — banjo Matt Mauch — dobro Bill Schwaner — bass
Back To The Old Double-Wide
Subsequent to the dissolution of The Cold River String Band, Bob Peelstrom and Doug formed Idol Hands along with Peter Heimlich and Lisa Ferson. In 2003/2004 they and some others went into ToddJones’ Medowlark Studio and recorded a bluegrass album, of which this DH tune was the title track, and, simultaneously If Not For Pretty Women, a more strictly Doug Hazard album.
